Schedule Change Policy:

Counselors and administrators make every effort to keep class sizes balanced. Centennial's policy is such that students who received the classes they requested at spring registration will be expected to remain in those classes unless they meet one of the following criteria. (These criteria do not guarantee a schedule change, but allow a student to be eligible for consideration for a change. All class changes are subject to final approval by the appropriate administrator.)

A failing grade will be received for the first semester which is a pre-requesite for the second semester.
Dropping an elective course for a course required for graduation. This request must be appropriate and not overfill the class.
Student is currently registered for or has completed the course through independent study (correspondence), night school, or summer school.
Student has tried out and made it into a sport or club and was not originally registered for the class.

In rare situations, there may be an administrator or teacher initiated change in which careful consideration is used. If the criteria above are not met and a student drops a subject after having been enrolled in class for five days or more, he/she will have the subject recorded on his/her transcript with an automatic F. (See Handbook, pg. 4).

Teacher Change Policy:

Student's schedules and teacher assignments are computer generated to balance student/teacher ratios in a fair and equitable manner. therefore, it is the policy of Centennial to address requests for teacher changes according to the following protocol.

Teacher changes will be made on a space available basis without a conference providing:
1. Student has completed a course with the teacher in a previous year.
2. Student's sibling completed a course with the teacher in a previous year.
Students and parents requesting a change of teacher when the above criteria have not been met must do the following:
1. the student must remain in the course for a minimum of one quarter.
2. A conference with the student, parent, counselor, teacher, and administrator will be held to discuss the request for change.
3. the student will explain why they are requesting the teacher change, what they have done to attempt to be successful in the course, and why they feel the change will be beneficial to them.
4. the administrator will make the final decision for a teacher change.

Independent Study (correspondence):

A variety of classes are offered through correspondence that will fulfill required or elective classes. These classes may not exceed a total of 12 credits, and must be received by school officials prior to graduation. For further information regarding correspondence or questions about how to enroll, please see you counselor.

Summer School:

Required classes are usually offered during summer school, and it is tentatively scheduled to be held at Mountain View High School this year There will be one session beginning June 19th and ending July 28th. Students can sign up for three courses during the one session. Registration forms will be available in the counseling office after spring break. Summer school can also be taken at Capital High School. A final transcript will need to be sent.

Night School:

Centennial now has a night school with a variety of required classes with schedules that change every 9 weeks. Students attend classes 2 nights a week for 4 hours and are able to obtain a credit in a 9-week period. Many students who have fallen behind may qualify for a tuition waiver.
