Testing, Testing, Testing . . .
PLAN: The PLAN test is offered to sophomores. Students register for this test at registration. This test measures skills and abilities highly related to high School course work. It is very similar to the ACT that is a college entrance test. This is a timed test that covers English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science Reasoning. An important component of this test is the inventory results that show the career areas most closely aligned with a person's interest, abilities, and work performances as determined by the composite final score.
PSAT: Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test. This test is offered to JUNIORS. It is the qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship. This test is only given on the national test date and students can pay for the test at registration. It is very similar to the SAT - a a college entrance exam. This exam covers Math and Verbal areas.
SAT: Scholastic Aptitude Test - This test is a college entrance exam and it covers Math and English only. (Test dates are listed in the Career Center Page.) Students either register on-line or they can pick up a packet in the counseling office.
ACT: This test is also a college entrance exam. This test covers a wider range of areas. They include: English, Math, Reading, and Science reasoning. Students either register on-line or they can pick up a packet in the counseling office. (Test dates and deadlines are listed on the Career Center Page.) This test also offers a career referenced interest inventory.
ASVAB: This test is the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery.
Achievement Tests: These tests are designed to measure a student's knowledge of a particular area. Theses tests are given on the same dates as the SAT. Students need to check if their college requires these tests.
