Oracle Academy at Centennial High School

Oracle I: Database Design and SQL Programming
Oracle II: PL/SQL Programming

Dual College Credits available through Boise State University, College of Information Technology Management

     Oracle Academy provides an opportunity for Students to learn Database Design, SQL Programming (Oracle I) and PL/SQL Programming (Oracle II). Database Design and SQL Programming is taught with both ANSI Standards and Oracle Proprietory SQL Code. PL/SQL is Oracle proprietary database programming code. Oracle I is a dual credit course with Boise State University's ITM-315 course for 3 credits. At the end of each course students have an opportunity to sit and take certification exams at a 40% reduced cost. 1Z0-007 at the end of Oracle I, and 1Z0-0147 at the end of Oracle II.

Why Should You Take Oracle Classes? Course Descriptions

     Centennial High School's Oracle Academy is in its third successful year. Students for the last two years have had the opportunity to sit for Oracle Professional Certification, and receive dual college credits with Boise State University for Database Design and SQL Programming (CIS 217). The current school year the college credits and professional certifications are continuing to be offered for this year's class. This year is the first opportunity for students to go to the second level, PL/SQL.

     By partnering with Oracle, Centennial High School receives an in-kind grant of more than $133,000 per year that includes curriculum, professional development, instructor support, and hosted software. The curriculum complies with several nationally recognized standards, including the National Work-force Center for Emerging Technology; National Math, English, and Social Studies; States’ Career Clusters; and Advanced Placement Computer Science exam (APCS).

     Included in the academy courses are preparation for Industry Certifications Exams: SQL Certification and Program with PL/SQL Exam. An articulation agreement with Boise State University in the School of Business, Department of Networking, Operations, and information Systems has been signed. If students take advantage of the option to register with BSU, they will receive dual credits at a reduced cost per credit, through BSU's Jump Start Program.
