The Chamber Orchestra

Chamber OrchestraThe chamber orchestra is an advanced group of string players playing major repertoire.  They meet each morning at zero hour before the normal class schedule.  Acceptance to this orchestra is done by auditions held each spring, and is open to all Meridian district students, including charter and home school.   Acceptance of charter and home school students requires dual enrollment, and you will need to provide your own transportation.

This orchestra is intended for students who are serious about playing in orchestras and are looking for a challenge.  Every effort is made to give these players a well-rounded playing experience in several playing situations.  With this in mind, guest conductors are brought in each year from major universities and professional orchestras to work with the players.  Many students have graduated from this orchestra and gone on to pursue music degrees at colleges and universities across the nation.

This orchestra was selected in 2005 to perform for the Idaho-All-State conference, the America’s Brightest Stars, the All Academy Ball and the Lincoln Day celebration.  They have received superior ratings in every festival they have entered, and have been featured on both TV and radio.

The concert master position is rotated among the top players in order to give students the opportunity to learn how to lead an orchestra.  The musicians are also divided into small ensembles to learn different repertoire and playing styles.  Several playing opportunities are presented for both the chamber orchestra and individual ensembles to gain exposure and playing experiences.
